The Reading Council of Greater Winnipeg is holding its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, May 18th at 4:30 via Zoom. As a valued member of our literacy community, we invite you to attend this meeting to hear about the good work our Council is doing to promote literacy in Manitoba and to also hear about ways you may be able to get involved and make a difference for Manitoba students and educators.
Our Board has also worked hard to revise our Constitution, so we invite you to view the proposed changes so that you are aware of what is being presented, and voted upon by membership, at the AGM. Thank you for taking the time to be active in your RCGW membership. We hope to see you at the AGM! Please RSVP if you plan on attending by contacting Leslie Dickson at [email protected], or Jackie Parsons at [email protected]. Notice was also provided to all members by email on April 14, 2021. One of the silver linings of professional learning moving almost exclusively online is that there are numerous webinars available, most of which can be accessed for several weeks or months after the fact. We have been continually impressed by how well the International Literacy Association (ILA) has shifted their conferences and seminars online.
Check out ILA's series of FREE webinars available to members and non-members. There is something for everyone: equity, book access, Science of Reading, anti-racism, empowering students, tough conversations, and early literacy instruction. There are also several ILA Webinars and ILA Intensives available for purchase for educators interested in a deeper dive into some of these topics. Winnipeg author and teacher Colleen Nelson will be doing a virtual book launch on Thursday, April 15, 2021, at 7 p.m. for her new book The Life and Deaths of Frankie D., a story about a fantastical circus and a girl with no past.
