It felt like art therapy! First, we made our rubbings with charcoal and a variety of objects Debra collected from nature. Next, we ironed our papers with beeswax. Finally, we folded our papers into our own unique books. Some of us even tried our hand at adding some thread details to our books using hand stitching. There was much excited chatter about a variety of ways that we could make these books with our students and get them engaged in writing. Thank you Debra for your time and sharing your gifts with us!

Seeking K – 5 Classroom Teachers!
M.Ed student at the University of Manitoba and RETSD educator Georgette Rahman is inviting teachers to take part in a small online reflective inquiry group exploring classroom read-aloud practices. Connect with fellow educators, share your insights, and deepen your understanding of read-aloud practices. This study is for full-time teachers in Manitoba who teach in a kindergarten through grade 5 classroom and have at least one full year of teaching experience. All participants will need to have the ability to participate in online meetings via Zoom. The time commitment for this study is approximately fifteen hours over approximately eight weeks

Her works, including Disrupting Thinking and Notice & Note – written with her longtime collaborator Bob Probst – and her classic When Kids Can't Read, What Teachers Can Do, remain core reference texts for teachers. Filled with numerous ideas, these books carry on Kylene's legacy. We invite you to read the International Literacy Association's memorial post to learn more about Kylene's amazing contributions to the field of literacy. ]]>
